Install any Synaptic packages before nvidia gpu drivers?

Postby inthosetrees » Sun Nov 03, 2013 12:52 pm

I have installed a number of Nvidia drivers in linux Olivia 15 32 bit.

To be honest i haven't been happy with any of them.

I have seen on numerous websites, to install certain packages first

linux-kernel-headers *

Are any packages needed before i install latest Nvidia gpu drivers.

It seems counter productive to not mention this before you install ?

Asus p5ql-e * Intel e8400 core 2 duo 3.0 ghz * 4 gb ram * Nvidia Geforce 210 * Realtek alc1200 8 - channel h/d audio codec * DVD/RW - Samsung atapi ihas124 * HDD Toshiba 500 gb * Linux Mint 18 xfce 32 bit.

It depends on how you're installing the drivers. I should think you'd only need the kernel headers and build-essential if you're installing the nvidia dkms module.
Installing nvidia-current straight from Synaptic, you shouldn't need to grab any additional packages.
