So i ran the code to check my sound card and lo and behold! It wasn't there.

My output from running : lspci | grep -i audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 05)
01:00.1 Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation GF108 High Definition Audio Controller (rev a1)

my output from running :lsmod | grep snd
snd_hda_codec_hdmi 36913 1
snd_hda_codec_realtek 78399 1
snd_hda_intel 61623 1
snd_hda_codec 136453 3 snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_intel
snd_hwdep 13602 1 snd_hda_codec
snd_pcm 97451 3 snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel
snd_page_alloc 18710 2 snd_pcm,snd_hda_intel
snd_seq_midi 13324 0
snd_seq_midi_event 14899 1 snd_seq_midi
snd_rawmidi 30180 1 snd_seq_midi
snd_seq 61554 2 snd_seq_midi_event,snd_seq_midi
snd_seq_device 14497 3 snd_seq,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq_midi
snd_timer 29425 2 snd_pcm,snd_seq
snd 68876 10 snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hwdep,snd_timer,snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_pcm,snd_seq,snd_rawmidi,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel,snd_seq_device
soundcore 12680 1 snd

my output from running: aplay -l
== aplay: device_list:252: no soundcards found...

I tried installing pulse audio but i couldn't edit anything because the only audio i was getting was "virtual" audio, no hardware audio. I also tried another proposed solution which involved installing pavucontrol but no solution as of yet.

i also tried (sudo adduser "name" audio) because i read somewhere that it helped someone else but it didn't work

Code: Select all

speaker-test
or

Code: Select all

speaker-test -c 2 -t wav -l 3
or

Code: Select all

speaker-test --channels 2 --test wav --nloops 3
If you get sound. Something is configured wrong.

Not good.

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
Maybe something will show when we see what kind of computer we are dealing with here.

Maybe because your gear has 2 soundcard chips?

Code: Select all

Audio: Card-1: NVIDIA GF108 High Definition Audio Controller driver: snd_hda_intel bus-ID: 01:00.1
Card-2: Intel 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller driver: snd_hda_intel bus-ID: 00:1b.0
Sound: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture ver: k3.8.0-19-generic
Sorry but I don't have much time available to help or get back with you. I have some inlaws in the Philippines that I have to
give support to, which requires me to spend my time on other things more important to me.

I am not sure what to do about having 2 sound cards also. Maybe turn one off, (the nvidia one), in bios? If it does not fix it. You can always
turn it back on.
