root password"

Postby cybermark4000 » Fri Jul 18, 2008 2:57 pm

I installed the bianca edition of Linux Mint lite. During the installation process I was not asked to make up a password for the "root " account. How do I find the password? This copy of Linux Mint came with a periodical (Linux User Magazine). There was no mention anywhere of a root password. Can somebody help me?

If you setup a normal account you have sudo access and don't need to activate the root account

And with sudo, the password that you will be putting in is your normal user password. Like this:
sudo command_that_you _want_to run_with_root_permissions
Password: <your_password>

You can log in as root (in a terminal) using:

Code: Select all

sudo su -

then type in the password for your ordinary user.

One more addition, if you want to set the root password you can do that with

Code: Select all

sudo passwd root
