Trouble with MP3 Player and Mint 16

Post by ravenwood1984 » Mon Dec 30, 2013 9:44 pm

I have a Philips GoGear ViBE mp3 player and for some reason I cannot get it to open on Mint 16.

I have tried different cables, restarts of both the mp3 player and the computer, installed a couple new multimedia programs.

When I plug it in the computer recognizes it, opens the window and I can click the internal storage Icon but it doesn't do anything after that, it just spins the loading icon for a while and then goes blank. There is music still on the mp3 player when I disconnect it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You may not be getting prompted. I would open the home folder, go down to devices, find yours and click on it, thus mounting the device.

It seems to be mounted, it just won't open internal storage. I have checked to see if the folders have been hidden for some reason, but no luck. I tried my Sansa Clip to see if it was only the Philips, but it's the same problem.

It sits like that ^^^ for 15 minutes and then the loading icon disappears and it just stays blank.

You may need mtp_tools installed from synaptic. I know I'm using it for my Sansa and Mint LTS. I can't supply more specifics at this time as I'm on that "other" ops and at work.

Yep as MTP protocol isn't supported out of the box.
And needed to install mtp_tools.

Since I'm using KDE had to install kio-mtp to access my Sansa zip.

No luck, I added mtp_tools from synaptic, still the same thing.

The guy who installed it on my comp said to add that I'm running 64-bit cinnamon version.

I have hooked up the mp3 players to a WIndows machine to make sure that it's not a problem with the player and verified that the players are fine.
