Music Software

Post by Ericbee »

Hi all,

I've been trialling Mint for a couple of weeks - I prefer the o/s and the range of things I can do with it unlike Windows and my intention is to kick Microsoft's efforts into touch.

Can anyone point me in the way of some decent music production software and offer some tips and advice please? I've found Musescore, which is a very good replacement for Sibelius. I've used Audacity for years. There seem to be a number of workstations and sequencers available but without trying them all, are there any that people would recommend? I use Cubase and Reason quite often.

Am I better off trying to run those through wine? Are the soundbanks in Reason compatible with anything on Linux?

Lots of questions, sorry! Hope it makes sense and thanks for any pointers you can give me :)

Audacity is available on linux too. Or are you looking for something else to complement it?
If there's something specific you'd like to use, then WINE may be able to run it. You can check the compatibility of many programs here: http://appdb.winehq.org/index.php
