<SOLVED> date format

Hello,

I have installed Mint 17 Cinnamon in english but I would like to use the french date format (day month year).
When I change the LC_TIME to fr_FR.UTF-8, it does what I want (i.e: the date of the mails in Thunderbird is displayed as I want), but Mint keeps on changing it back to en_US.UTF-8

How can I permanently change LC_TIME without changing ALL the locales ?

I checked the file /etc/default/local

LC_IDENTIFICATION="fr_FR.UTF-8"

I tried the command :
sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales
everything is up-to-date

however when I type
echo $LC_TIME

en_US.UTF-8

This seems to happen only for the Administrator user that was created during the installation. I tried with a standard user that I created afterwards and with root (sudo su) and for these 2 users it's correct.

Anyone can help please ????

I found out thanks the the Ubuntu documentation

It seems that the administrator user created during the installation of Mint has user-specific locale variables set, so changing the system locale entries in /etc/default/locale is overriden for this user.

I did edit the file $HOME/.pam_environment to fix the problem. I guess I could have deleted it to use the system defaults but I didn't try.
