Installing with a partition...

Postby Tomist » Mon Sep 22, 2008 9:43 am

Hi!

I want to install Linux Mint on my HP and keep Windows on it as well. I read the dual-boot guide in the Installation forum and was wondering... HPs have a partition on them that has a support system on it. Should that extra partition cause any problem in my installation?

Thanks, Tomist :D

That will not cause a problem at all.
Mint GRUB will even show that recovery partition as an option in bootup menu.
Just keep in mind your limit of 4 primary partitions.
And if this is a vista dual boot, you will want to shrink the vista partition using vista, not gparted.
gparted cannot see some files vista places in the middle of the partition.
For example if you have a clean vista install on a 60 gig drive, vista might only let you shrink it to 40 gig even thought it only looks like vista is using 25 gig.
There are workarounds to that if you fell brave. :D

Thanks for your quick reply! I'm running Windows XP so that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks again!
