Wifi going real slow at times?

Post by cazerade »

So this is my first time ever using Linux and everything seems to be fine, except for my wifi. It would be fine for a few mins, and then it would go real slow and eventually i would have to disconnect and reconnect the wifi. I am currently using the edimax ew-7811Un adapter, but i really don't know how to fix this problem. Any help would be greatly appreaciated!

I had the same problem in Mint 15 XFCE. I searched around and found this:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/374681/h ... new-kernel

It worked perfectly but does not work now I am using Mint 17 XFCE. I now have the same problem as you. Can anyone help me to get the Edimax EW-7811UN working properly in Mint 17 XFCE?

Hi Spearmint2,
Thanks for your help. However, I followed the instructions on http://www.cianmcgovern.com/getting-the ... -on-linux/ and all was ok until I did the bash install.sh.

I got Compile make driver error: 2. This is in Mint 17 XFCE (kernel 3.13.0.24).

Any advice?

I just linked to there for explanation of one driver instead of the other. I should have made that clear.

There's easier ways to remove drivers using modprobe.

Code: Select all

modprobe -c |grep 8192
above will give you a look at all "8192" kernel entries.

This goes over removing and installing mods to the kernel.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/kernel_modules

(please, leave the BASH alone ;) )

I didn't see a valid link to that 8192cu, only to rtl8192cu.

In fact, this is the complete list at realtek.

Downloads Search
RTL8188CE (Software)
RTL8188CE-VAU (Software)
RTL8188CUS (Software)
RTL8188RU (Software)
RTL8188SU (Software)
RTL8191SE-VA2 (Software)
RTL8191SU (Software)
RTL8192CE-VA4 (Software)
RTL8192CU (Software)
RTL8192SE (Software)
RTL8192SU (Software)

my guess is they've rolled it into the rtl8192 later version instead of it being separate like before.
