Post by Octavian » Mon Jul 21, 2014 11:13 am

I just installed Linux mint because I wanted something I could learn on that was Linux. I used Ubuntu for quit a while and have been hearing people talk about how good Linux mint was and wanted to give it a shot.

I am having trouble installing updates.

Here is the output I am getting

Looks like you installed Linux Mint 15, which is obsolete since 6 months ago. You can't update because the servers from which to update don't support your release any longer. You should instead install Linux Mint 17, which is supported till April 2019. Read more: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=173378

Not looking very closely vincent ;)

The topic starter is also using repositories for 2 different versions:
Ign http://packages.linuxmint.com olivia/upstream Translation-en
Ign http://archive.canonical.com raring/partner Translation-en_US
Raring is indeed obsolete and should be removed from the repository.
And beside that, the error the topic starer gets is also simply to avoid. Those translation files are not needed and it's just overkill. They only creates, as it looks like, a lot of error messages. To get rid of these error messages, simply following the instruction provided here: https://sites.google.com/site/usertipsl ... ndex-error

Nope, olivia is Linux Mint 15 and raring is Ubuntu 13.04 which is the package base used in Linux Mint 15.

I upgraded to Linux mint 16 but hit brick wall with error code with upgrading to 17.

Thanks for your respons. Sorry I did not get back to you quickly. I am trying to fix my computer while packing to move into a different city so I am trying to do two things at once. Agian thanks for the help.

Update: I did some reading on this error code and found that it is a problem with prevous installed parts that did not get uninstalled while upgrading. I also looked into disk usage to see if it ran out of space but I still have a lot of space left. So I think this confirms that it is a uninstallation prblem right?
