64 bit kernel LM 17 [solved]

Post by cohassetsteve » Sat Aug 16, 2014 9:08 pm

I recently installed Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon 64 bit version. I seem to be running a 32 bit kernel - "uname -a" gives me this

Linux linux 3.13.0-24-generic #47-Ubuntu SMP Fri May 2 23:31:42 UTC 2014 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux

I believe from what I've read that with a 64 bit CPU it should return x86_64

"grep flags /proc/cpuinfo" returns this

steve@linux:~$ grep flags /proc/cpuinfo
flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe nx rdtscp lm constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts xtopology nonstop_tsc aperfmperf pni dtes64 monitor ds_cpl vmx smx est tm2 ssse3 cx16 xtpr pdcm sse4_1 sse4_2 popcnt lahf_lm ida dtherm tpr_shadow vnmi flexpriority ept vpid

which, I believe the "lm" yells me that the CPU is 64 bit.

Is this normal? Did I do something wrong with the install?

Thanks for your attention

Ignore this! I just discovered that I had installed the 32 bit version by mistake, duh! How do i mark it as solved?
