audacity problem

Postby Paulgr » Fri Oct 31, 2008 1:25 pm

I installed audacity with the hope of recording some online music, but whenever I played the recorded file I heard nothing. I started playing around with the settings and now when I try to record anything, I get this error message:

Error while opening sound device. Please check the input settings and the project sample rate.

I've tried different settings from the preferences tab; that is, changing the playback and recording devices in the audio I/O section of preferences to no avail. I keep getting the above mentioned error message.

I know my question may be best answered in another forum, so I'll ask a few newbie type questions:

1) Is there a way for me to get audacity back to the way it was when I first installed it?

2) Is there a little easier to use audio recording device for newbies? I'm a little intimidated by all the options of audacity?

3) What forum should I ask further questions about audacity?

Recording online music sounds a little... illegal, and we don't know anything about that kind of stuff here.
