Lower sound than usual?

Postby Enigma52809 » Fri Dec 05, 2008 8:07 pm

I just installed Linux Mint 6 and am so far very happy with it. I even got the sound to work 8). The only problem now is that it is playing a lot quieter than it would on windows, I need to turn my speakers all the way up to be able to hear the music, which isn't normal. I haven't really done anything with the sound in terms of setting up, it worked out of the box (takes away some of my pride from getting the sound to work, but yeah) and could it be possible that I'm missing some kinda drivers or something? My speakers are Logitech X-230 and there's an integrated sound board/driver thing in my motherboard. Thanks for any help.

I'm having the same problem. A bit annoying when I turn the speakers up to get normal sound in Mint, then boot into windows and get blasted.
Linux Mint 8 RC1 = Nice
'apt install' can be used on Linux Mint as a shortcut for 'sudo apt-get install'. 'apt x' can be used for various other apt commands as well.

Some people have suggested installing gnome-alsamixer and using it to adjust the system sound. I did that (had to crank the first three sliders  ) and found I have much clearer, louder sound now. Might be worth a try?

I like gnome-alsamixer. Also watch the last 4 toggles (via).
