English (UK) cannot be replaced by English (US)

Post by sunshinekid »

I am located in the Philippines, but not Filipino. When I installed Linux Mint Mate 17.1 64 bit (and the 32 bit, as well), I specified "English (US)" as system language, but when Firefox checks spelling, it always reverts back to English (UK), no matter how often I select my preferred version of English, which shows up correctly as "English (US)" when I check it. When I spell a common word like "color" it always gets tagged as "misspelled", and this can happen as often as changing web sites and submitting comments, even US-based websites.

In fact, logging onto this web site, I wanted to ensure that I was using English (US), but the preferences don't even give me that option - it says "English (British)", with no other available forms of English! I realize I may be just picky, but why is it so hard to select your language of choice?

You have to tell Firefox which language you want to use...

I have had this problem in Firefox for a long time. This thread prompted me to see if there was something I could do about it. I found there is this add-on:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... -switcher/

I added it, and now I have 4 different English versions available, instead of the 3 I had before. This is not going in the right direction. I will be watching this thread.
