linux mint 6 won't start

linux mint 6 won't start

i have a problem with linux mint 6 (and ubuntu 8.10 and fedora 10)

when it tries to start the X server, the screen shuts down but the led is still green (should be yellow) i dont really know why... linux mint 5 starts perfectly...

in ubuntu, in the livecd i can even hear the sound when you log in

The x is not exactly the same in Felicia and Elyssa
More facts please

You have to tell us more facts.
We need to know a bit about all your hardware.
Run " lspci " in a terminal and post here (To copy from a terminal right click)

Almost everything in my system is nVidia, as you can see.

motherboard: nv 680i SLI, processor: intel dual core 2'66 Ghz

Oh, btw, when i hit ctrl+alt+F1, i can see the terminal. (in Felicia)
In fedora 10, when i hit ctrl+alt+F1 (the install version) i see the console, but i can't run commands, all i can see is "X server started" or something like that.

i hope that is enough...

Have you tried compatibility mode? Press any key when the live CD counts down
Some nvidia cards don't like the open source "nv" driver that is default - I must use compatibility mode for my nvidia computer
I feel slightly suspicious about the nvidia *55 motherboards but that may be wrong
