Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- launch a terminal window and make it fullscreen, to avoid chopped lines;
- copy/paste this command into the terminal:

if you type: the letter F is a capital letter

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

I have a similar issue. I cannot shut down or restart anymore...since couple of weeks.

@Jility: in your case, this is the probable reason:
Kernel: 4.1.6-040106-generic
Boot from a supported kernel and remove this unsupported kernel.
