Screen Recording Software

Post by microsoft2linux »

I was looking for Screen capture/recording software and I found Kazam and others. I installed Kazam and used for a while, it runs so nicely. I am a new user so I have a couple of questions about this subject.

Is Kazam the best screen capture/recording software? OR
Is there any better software for screen capture/recording software for Linux Mint 17.2?

More I learn more I like Linux.

Thanks

Vokoscreen is another choice you could try. It's in the repositories, so you can install with Software Center, Synaptic, or use terminal command:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install vokoscreen

+1 for simplescreenrecorder. Great app -- I can't imagine anything else being better.

I think that gtk-recordmysesktop is the best. Also xvidcap is good.

Thank you all for your advice. One more thing I would like to know that there is any possibility to compare these software side by side. Such type of comparison I found on many Windows software and pc hardware.

Not entirely sure what you mean by that. Side-by-side features comparison? Maybe do internet search for articles that may have compared Linux screen recorders -- I don't know.

Otherwise, might not be a bad idea to just install them all and test them out to see which you like the best. Then just uninstall the ones you don't want. Linux is not like Windows. When you install things, miscellaneous (unwanted) extras are not installed along with it; and when you uninstall, it uninstalls -- no mysterious leftovers running processes in the background.

The picture is an example of what I meant.

Alternativeto has a list of comparisons but it doesn't give the nice tabulated features format. I does show "likes" for the packages as well as links to project home pages:
http://alternativeto.net/software/simpl ... form=linux

I have tried several and I have found, for my purposes, simplescreenrecorder to be the best. With it I am able to record sound and video without a flaw. It's easy to work with and remarkably configurable.
