Restart error messages

Post by gandalf_the_white »

Upon restarting my LinuxMint PC, I am seeing what looks like an error message before the rebooting process begins. The problem is before I can read it the message disappears.
Is there a file that records this message so I can read the message after the rebooting process completes? If so, what is the path and filename?

Thanks

Put your output for these commands in the Code Tag.

Code: Select all

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Code: Select all

cat /var/log/boot.log

Code: Select all

cat /var/log mintsystem.log
having a look through these log files might give you an idea.

question: why were you rebooting? Was there a process that required you to reboot?
May you have good thermals.

I looked through all the /var/log files, but none of them showed data similar to that which shows during restart.
Is there a way to send the data that is on the monitor during restart to a file? I tried PrtScn, but that didn't work.
I'm thinking this data is on what we used to call the DOS level.

The original reason for rebooting was that I use the BOINC Distributive Computing. When one of its files it modified the system needs to be rebooted for the changes to be implemented. However, this has nothing to do with the info I am looking for, because the error info appears even when no BOINC changes have been made.

Hi and terribly sorry for the late reply.

does the program, when your running it, have any problems in application?

also, have you tried the locate command?

Code: Select all

locate BOINC
if you don't have the locate command, you will have to install it first. Check with using the program first.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install locate
have you used the find command as well to try?
May you have good thermals.

Jerry,

This is not a BOINC issue. I need to find out what is printed on the screen during a Restart. The only thing I can read is sometimes it looks like Modem Manager. However, to my knowledge, I am not using a linux modem manager.

Mute Ant thanks for the response.
I have two syslog files dated for 9/29/2015.
I will attach both in case you or someone can find an problem that might explain my issue.
syslog - https://www.dropbox.com/s/31x5ihakc3q0maq/syslog?dl=0
syslog.1 - https://www.dropbox.com/s/7huc5mac03a9lxf/syslog.1?dl=0

This is my first attempt at using Dropbox for data files. If you can't read the files, let me know and I'll try something else.

Thanks

No disrespect intended but I think you should stop worrying about messages as the computer boots. If it runs, it's fine. :D
