How do I install a Linux Wifi driver

Postby jacatone » Fri Jan 09, 2009 3:05 am

I'm running LM 4. I installed a wireless USB 2.0 adapter (dongle) and I have the driver disk which shows the driver, I just don't know how to install it. I tried installing just the Linux driver but got the follow message:

jacatone@eMax: /media/cdrom1$ ls

DATA layout.bin _Setup.dll
data1.cab Release notes Setup.exe
data1.hdr RTL8187B Setup.ico
data2.cab RTL8187B_Linux_24.6.1024.0822.2007 Setup.ini
IsConfig.ini RTL8187B_MacOS10.4_Driver_1117_UI_1.5.1A Setup.inx
ISSetup.dll RTL8187B-Win_Dri_only Setup.iss

jacatone@eMax: /media/cdrom1$ install RTL8187B_Linux_24.6.1024.0822.2007
install: missing destination file operand after 'RTL8187B_Linux_24.6.1024.0822.2007'

Does LM not recognize a dongle when its inserted? Windows does and asks for the driver if it doesn't have it. Thanks.

Have never done it myself but I would think that if you started up the Windows Wireless Driver app in the Admin menu and pointed it to the file on the CD, it might just work.

Yes, that would work. Although I would just take the driver file and copy it to your /home folder to make it easier to repeat this in the future.

Tried that, but still get the "missing destination file operand" error message. Am I supposed to type "make install" or some other command?
