Where is font folder (font suitcase) in Linux Mint 17.3 MATE ?

How do I find it ?

On Mint Cinnamon the fonts are at /usr/share/fonts Maybe it's the same for Mate.

Have you tried just searching for "fonts" using your file manager program?
Mint 17.3 x64 Cinnamon - Rosa
When stating what version of Mint you are using remember to include the "Edition". Is it "Cinnamon", "Mate", "KDE" or "XFCE"? This helps others help you.

/usr/share/fonts will apply to all Linux Mint desktop environments, Cinnamon, Mate, xfce, KDE. It might even apply to Ubuntu. :shock:

/usr/share/fonts will apply to all Linux Mint desktop environments, Cinnamon, Mate, xfce, KDE. It might even apply to Ubuntu.
Pretty sure that's the location in any OS using the freedektop standards:

OP: per-user fonts can also be in ~/.fonts

Quite correct. If necessary, ~/.fonts should be a link to ~/.local/share/fonts.

Mh, this could probably break some programs.

One programs which uses - and creates - ~/.fonts is font-manager. It creates inside a link to it's own library (which is in .local/share/font-manager//Library. I don't know if font-manager gets broken, if you would create ~/.fonts as a link, as it would prevent font-manager from creating the folder ~./fonts.

A program which does use .local/share/fonts is gnome-font-viewer, which comes pre-installed with Cinnamon (I don't know about Mate).
