Open source for parts?

Post by Octavian » Wed Feb 17, 2016 1:41 pm

.....I am looking into building a desktop myself when I can afford it. I love to be way ahead of the game. That is why I would like to look into this now. I have searched through different hardware to try and find source code. To my surprise I could not find anything. I thought surely there would be something. How in the world does Linux exist today if there is no source code for the parts that everyone uses.
.
......Surely I missed something. Perhaps because I am still new to programming that I have not been looking hard enough. (Hints why I post this here) So if any of you can explain to me how to find parts with open source code on the net I would really appreciate it. Otherwise would some one mind telling me how in the world is the community of Linux creating and debugging all the distros that are out there.
Real men wear pink but a true man will be who he is even when the world thinks differently.
Due to my Job I am only able to get on Thursday through Saturday. On occasion I will be on other days.

You can get the source from the repos. There's no need to search anywhere.

Enable the source repos and

Code: Select all

apt get source packagename
See

Code: Select all

man apt-get

Like this...http://www.ubuntugeek.com/create-your-o ... guide.html...also known as Buddhist Linux (make me one with everything).
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named "manual".

On the Internet side: For example the all-mighty Cinnamon Desktop source code is hosted at:
https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon

I think IRC channels are the popular communication method for free and open source project, I think.
