recurring error on update; g_child_watch_add_full: assertion 'pid > 0

Post by singingotter »

error displays at first line of terminal window each time i run software update.
full text;

(synaptic:10044): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_child_watch_add_full: assertion 'pid > 0' failed

only one post I found mentions a similar problem with a proposed solution, but no instructions how to implement.

This is a known bug in Synaptic:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1282542
It is already fixed in Synaptic 0.82.5 (see comment #60) which, unfortunately, is not available for Mint yet. Debian hasn't implemented this even in Sid:
https://packages.debian.org/sid/synaptic
So we should either wait or update Synaptic manually. Since this bug is only annoying, I prefer waiting.

BTW, I sent a bug report to Debian mentioning this fix and asking for updating Synaptic to this version:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=831008
