I get errors while installing Kernels

Post by wmh »

These are what I get in /var/lib/dkms/ndiswrapper/1.59/build/make.log when I install them through the Update Manager > *Linux Kernels window.

Code: Select all

google ["loader.c:157:4: error:"] gives some answers. Maybe!

Please edit your original post title to include [SOLVED] if/when it is solved!

I found a answer I should add into the kernel to fix the issue but I have no idea how to. I'm not a programmer, just a newbie poking stuff until it breaks.

Code: Select all

#include <linux/vmalloc.h>
If anyone has a similar problem and know how to this may help you. There are not many threads around the web regarding this.

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3427 ... on-vmalloc

As for the Kernel I found one that gave me no errors. 4.2.0.18 though I keep receiving these error messages installing Kernel using update manager.

If someone, with similar issue, could check to see if it fixes I'd change the thread to solved.

Does the kernel not get installed? I don't think these minor dkms errors affect the kernel and may have no noticeable affect on your computer

And since it is ndiswrapper, you would only notice is you have some oddball wireless chipset that isn't supported by the kernel

Hi there JeremyB!

They do get installed and seem to work even though I get these weird messages during setup.

My wireless chipset is atheros 5416|5008 -> AR5416 (5ghz)+AR2133 (2ghz) dual-band. It is supported because i'm on the internets but could it be that some kernels are not with it coded and present this error or it does not make sense at all? Some of the newer Kernels I tried didn't and do not give me wireless network.

I would look at

Code: Select all

lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net; rfkill list all
Look at Kernel driver in use: and check to see if it isn't blocked somehow

Check

Code: Select all

ifconfig
to see if the wireless interface is UP
