Mint 18 beta + Tor

Post by Larkin »

After I installed Mint 18 beta, I can not use Tor. I do not understand what is happening. Please help.

I think you misunderstand what beta means, it means the the distro may be used for testing the features but not used as an operating system in place of your existing one. Trying to run tor is pushing too far into the unknown until the main release is finalised.

I installed the beta because I had not another flash with another system.

But, in any case, how I can to make it works? Where I have to find the problem?

Please specify exactly what problem do you have with Tor.

I use LM 18 beta Cinnamon 64bit too. I just downloaded Tor from https://www.torproject.org/download/download.html.en extracted the archive to the desktop and started the "Tor Browser" and everything works fine.

I use Mint 17.3 and installed Tor by opening a shell by ctrl-alt-T and executing:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:upubuntu-com/tor64
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install tor-browser
sudo chown $USER -Rv /usr/bin/tor-browser/

If you get an error on: sudo chown $USER -Rv /usr/bin/tor-browser/
You should probably execute: sudo chown $USER -Rv ~/.tor-browser
