Printer driver - what did I just install?

Post by rxd » Thu Jun 23, 2016 8:59 pm

I am trying to set up a Xerox Workcentre 5955 on my PC. I don't see the right driver to choose so I go to the Xerox website and download and install the Linux driver for the printer. Mint is still selecting the wrong driver and I can't figure out what driver is the one I just downloaded and installed in order to choose it. How can I tell which driver is the right one that I just installed?

From experience with the Xerox drivers for Linux. They are usually in RPM. They can sometimes be rather tricky to install in LM17.3. :?

I found that my LM grabbed a similar driver out of the not near selections and it works fine. There were a couple of hiccups but it is starting to look like it did in my windows install. :P

You might look in your "Downloads" folder. If you installed the right one it won't be there.

The first is 32bit and the second 64bit. Which one you install depends on whether you have 32bit Mint or 64bit Mint.

I have 64 bit Mint. The problem is that after I install the drivers with no problems at all I can't find them. Adding the printer still selects the wrong printer model and driver and I can't find these to select them. Basically my question is where did they go? I installed them but can't find them and select them for my printer.

How exactly did you install these, did you use gdebi Package Installer?

Open Synaptic Package Manager and type xerox, or maybe workcentre to look for them.

If you find them Uninstall the i686, reboot, delete the printer from the que, and start over. If things seem to get jammed up Unplug Printer and try again.

Did you see any README TEXT DOCS, those need to be looked at just in case there are dependencies needed, or general install instructions. Those are very new drivers, maybe the included Mint ones will work, if there are included ones?

Sorry not in Linux right now so can't look to see what is available
