BUGS

Post by raleighman » Fri Jul 08, 2016 2:43 pm

I am finding more and more bugs in Mint that are unacceptable.

I will try a re-install.

If no improvement, I will try the next most popular distro.

@raleighman
Please try LM 17.3 before giving up on linux mint.
I do agree there are problems with LM 18 and the implementation of systemd.
However this is not indicative of linux mint.
LM 17.3 will be supported 'til 2019.
Surely we will have a 18.1 in the very near future
Mint 18 Cinnamon, 4.6.3 kernel
Intel i5-2500k@4.8GHz
16 Gb DDR3
Nvidia GTX670

When you say support til 2019, does that mean after then I can no longer install any packages ??

Correct?

It would be helpful, if you would either list them combined or better link to what you have already reported. "More and more bugs" is nothing, what can be discussed and what can be solved.

raleighman, you have to be the unluckiest newcomer to Mint I've seen yet. There must be 7 or 8 issues\complaints\bugs that you've run across, all in your first 24 hours!

I do not think I am unlucky.

After installing LM 17.3, guess what ?

Printer and scanner STILL do not work.

Mint just does cannot my support my hardware.

Will give Ubuntu a test drive and get on their forum.

Thanks for the quick responses to my posts.

I have responded to several of your posts. I have not seen bugs as an issue for any of your problems. One of the problems is that Canon doesn't provide Linux drivers for your printer. The other is that HP doesn't provide Linux drivers for your scanner. Neither of those is a bug in Mint.

I have been using HP Deskjets for many years with Linux. Print and scan no issues.
My Canon Pixma uses a driver found by 17.0 and 17.3.
The main issue is Simple scan and xsane do not see the scanner with 17.0 and 17.3.

I found a Linux driver at the Canon site but the install fails about halfway.

My new W10 laptop is what I use for scanning.

I keep an older laptop in the back room with 17.0 on the HP in case I need another scanner.

Using an iPhone and iPad a lot more so Linux is not so much an issue anymore.
Took a few years but have finally over come the holier than thou using Linux.

Lindows, Linspire, Freespire, Ubuntu, Mint 15 Cinnamon, Mint 16 XFCE, Mint 17 Cinnamon 64 bit. MInt 18 64 bit Cinnamon.

Do you report a printer that doesn't work in Windows to Microsoft as well?
If it screams it isn't food yet.
