Shutdown Shortcut - Mint 18

Post by OhioYJ » Sun Jul 10, 2016 8:45 pm

So on one of my media PCs I updated to Mint 18 (Cinnamon). On my other machines running 17.3, I have a shortcut on the desktop labeled sleep timer, that runs shutdown -h +120 that runs in the terminal. So the PC shutdowns, in two hours, and the TV also turns off. However this same shortcut doesn't seem to work in Mint 18, I'm sure I'm overlooking something simple? The terminal window never opens up?

Yes I know it doesn't take long to type in the command, but the short cut is for the wife and kids.

  1. Code: Select all

    cd Desktop/
  2. Code: Select all

    cat > NameYouWant
  3. Enter: sudo shutdown -h +120
  4. Hit Ctrl + d twice.
  5. Code: Select all

    chmod a+x NameYouWant
  6. Double-clicking on the NameYouWant file on the desktop creates a prompt, then the wife and kids click on Run.
