Just installed Linux Mint 18 and have no internet connection

Post by Punchy71 » Wed Jul 27, 2016 4:24 pm

Greetings,
I just installed Linux Mint 18 to an extra laptop PC I have. It is showing a broken internet link icon down in the bottom right hand corner in the system tray. And indeed I don't have an internet connection. How can I resolve this?
Thank you

I went to "driver manager" (as superuser) and it brought up a dialog box with this message:

Drivers cannot be installed. Please connect to the Internet or insert the Linux Mint installation DVD (or USB stick).

Do you have the installation media? The wifi you have needs the bcmwl-kernel-source module and it is on the installation media. If you have issues, post

Code: Select all

uname -a
and I might be able to compile the module for you

I have the installation media on a USB drive. I plugged it into the USB port. But what do I do next?

Then go into driver manager and see if it offers a Broadcom STA driver to install
