Desktop in Linux Mint 18 look like 17.3 ? (Solved)

Post by Jørn Rudolph » Sun Aug 07, 2016 11:34 am

I have installed Linux Mint 17.3 MATE

And Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon ...

Dual boot - Works fine ...

But I think I like the look of 17.3 desktop better - The bright look ...

Not the black look of 18 ....

Is it possible to change the look from black to light ?

Where can I find a picture, please - Of do it in another way

Mint 18 uses by default the Mint-X theme, which is the same as in LM 17.x. It sounds, that you have switched to Mint-Y dark. Switch back.

No!!! Embrace the darkness.
I run both Windows 10 and Linux Mint 18 in dual boot with two SSDs and have other rigs running various versions of Linux. My blog.

Well - I have not be doing anything ...

It was there when I installed it ...

Maybe I can get used to the dark ...

But I, honestly, like the light look better .... (I believe) ...

Not sure about settings for 18, but assuming it is more or less similar to 17.3, do the following:

Select 'menu' then 'all applications' then 'system settings' - under 'appearance' select 'themes' then select 'desktop' - choose whichever theme you like. I'm assuming that Mint x will be in the list presented to you.

HTH
Best wishes,
Keith

Here's the image you want in a .7z file. I don't have a clue how you could change the 17.3 in the image to an 18 though.

That is strictly impossible (except, your downloaded file has been compromised, in which case the verification with gpg and sha256 would have failed. Also the official announcement says, that Mint-X is default in Mint 18. None of my numerous Mint 18 systems behaves different to the announcement.

Anyway, i posted already the simple solution. In case you don't know: Right click the panel on an empty place -> themes.
