Peazip installaton link in Applications Menu <SOLVED>

Post by share3141 »

I have installed the following:
/home/steve/Downloads/peazip_6.1.0.LINUX.GTK2-2_i386.deb
/home/steve/Downloads/peazip_portable-6.1.0.LINUX.GTK2.tar.gz

Both appear to have installed successfully.

However, I cannot figure out how to get a link in the Menu under Applications for either installation.

Thanks

Reads like you should have a folder with instructions . . :? (I use p7zip-full that I installed from Synaptic Package Manager) Do you have a peazip context menu when you right-click a file, folder, or archive in your File Manager?
..FreeDesktop_integration folder (featured both in installable and in standalone versions) contains .desktop files and simple instructions to add PeaZip to start menus and context menus of desktop environments following the FreeDesktop standards..

No, I do not have a context menu. I went and read the link you posted...It seems like I have to have a KDE or Gnome environment to make this work. I have a Cinnamon environment if I am using this terminology correctly. Still trying to adapt from Windows!

If I go to the directory that has the portable app I can open up PeaZip. The issue I have there is I can't read any of my NTFS drives - only the drive and partition I have Linux installed with.

With the installed version I simply can't integrate with the desktop (which means to me at least) I can't create a "shortcut" in the Menu / Application or when I right-click on a file and select the compress option I do not get a PZ screen. I do get a 7zip screen - as I installed 7zip per your suggestion.

I don't use peazip, but as the quote above states, you should have instructions inside that folder. In the link, it also talks about how to get context menus in your File Manager.

good luck,

PeaZip only provides i386 package for Linux. Make sure you have enable i386 architecture on Linux Mint with the following command if already enabled then skip:

sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386

sudo apt -get update

Peazip With GTK2

sudo apt-get install gdebi

wget http://freefr.dl.sourceforge.net/projec ... 2_i386.deb

sudo gdebi peazip_6.3.0.LINUX.GTK2-2_i386.deb
