I am trying to dual boot Linux Mint and Kali. I have some problems with some of my partitions. I have googled a lot reading about partitions, partitioning, gparted, disks, fstab etc., but still don't get it. Please help.
1. Here is what I would like to achieve with my partitions:
I would like to have 4 partitions: one for the two Linux distros (Mint & Kali) each, one data partition that can be accessed from both distributions and one swap partition that both of the distributions can use (no, I don't want to hybernate).
/dev/sda1: Mint system and home (ext4)
/dev/sda3: Kali system and home (ext4)
/dev/sda4: Data partition used by both Mint & Kali (ext4)
/dev/sda2: Extended partition for swap partition
/dev/sda5: Swap partition (swap)
2. Here is what I got so far:
I started from a machine with a single Linux Mint 17.3 on one partition, that occupied the entire disk, minus the swap partition. I used gparted from the Kali Live USB to shrink the Mint partition and add the new Kali partition and the data partition. I didn't change Mint's existing extended/swap partition.
I managed to install Kali and got it up and running on it's own partition.
3.1. On the Linux Mint system:
During booting, I get an error message (s for skip mounting, m for continue mounting).
Mint's view on the data partition is not mounted, although in the Disks utility I set it to mount at startup and added the correct mounting point (/mnt/data).
Mint's view on the extended partition is shown in gparted as "not busy, there are no mounted logical partitions" and the linux swap partition is not active.
3.2. On the Kali system:
Kali's view on the data partition is mounted, accessible under /mnt/data
Kali's view on the extended partition is: under Disks it seems like I had one partition 2 (this must have been the extended part.), but there is no swap part., just 2GB free space. However, in gparted I can see sda2 as extended, status busy and sda5 as active (these are the extended and swap partitions, respectively).
Can someone please help me to sort this out to get the end result I have stated under 1.?
I would greatly appreciate if someone would not only write the solution but also explain !verbose what is going on.
FInally, the fstab files:

Any help is greatly appreciated.
