I can't delete a file. Can't create new user.

Post by Weeping Cookie »

I'm trying to completely remove plex, so i can install it fresh again.

The folder I'm trying to delete is in var/lib/plexmediaserver.

Also, I'm trying to create a new user, but Linux mint won't let me. When I press add it just stays and nothing happens.
How do I fix this?

When I installed plex it was a deb package so purging it via tha package manager is the best way to uninstall it.

If you used the gui app to create a new user, log out and back in again.

If he/she is still not there usesudo adduser username replacing username with the name of the user.

Unless there's another that I'm not aware of :?

Does dpkg -S var/lib/plexmediaserver return anything :?:

Lol my bad I thought you were talking about something else for that moment.

So yeah I did the complete removal thing from the package manager for plexmediaserver, the file was still there though.

So I accessed the var/lib/ directory as root and deleted the plexmediaserver folder like that.

So i guess that solves that.

Is that not a good way to do it?

If the package manager left remnants then deleting them is OK.

I always have to delete /lib/modules/old_kernel after a kernel update because of some remnant dkms modules compiled for that kernel version because synaptic won't remove a populated folder.
