BBC Radio

Post by bobfunduro »

Hi all.

Sorry to bother you all yet again.

Search as I might I can't find the answer as to why, on a newly installed Mint, that I can't get BBC Radio 4 /2 to play via Firefox.

I've loaded Adobe flash and Gnash but the BBC websites won't fully load and play.

The Beeb is pretty vital as I refuse to have TV and my life revolves around the radio, books and now Linux! What a SSS (seriously sad sod)

Cheers

BBC iPlayer should run fine on Firefox for both TV and Radio. However, if you don't want TV then you could give Radioplayer a try.

p.s. Presumably you do live in the UK? If this is not the case then many BBC programmes may not be available to you due to licensing restrictions.

Going to the BBC Radio 4 - Radio Player, I found that it was heavily javascript dependent. So if you're using a javascript blocker, such as the often recommended NoScript, make sure you're making the proper exceptions. I had to unblock bbc.co.uk, bbci.co.uk, and radioplayer.co.uk to get it to work.

The mystery of BBC Radio/Mint

Post by bobfunduro »

Hi all.

Don't ask me why but the Iplayer doesn't work but I suppose you might call it the direct version http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/player/bbc_radio_fourfm does work.

Ahh but - Radio 2 http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/player/bbc_radio_two needs to be refreshed to work..................... :?

When you analyse how much time I spend finding solutions to getting Mint to work as I wish - then you can guess how much I hate Windows!

Cheers all.

Download the .pls or .m3u file and play the stream on VLC or some other player. Simple and reliable. Mint or Windows has nothing to do with it.

You could also try Radio Tray. I love it.
