TV worked fine until recent update on about 28 March - bunch of cat3 libxine1 files.
now opens ok runs for 1 sec then closes, TVtime does the same.
only affects tv - *.wmv,flv,avi,mpeg are ok.

Is there a way to roll back the upgrade or should I just wait for an update?

usually the problem is what to roll back.
you can get into dependancy hell going backwards, as well as forwards.
there could also be level 4 or 5 update that fixes your problem but may break other things.
