Google Chrome 32 bit

Post by panorain »

Hi there.

I am trying to install google chrome 32 bit on my computer. My computer is currently running Linux Mint 17 Qiana. when I go to the following link -->

https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/d ... index.html only 64 bit version is allowed to be downloaded.

Could someone please recommend the ideal way for me to install 32 bit Google Chrome 37 or higher on my computer?

Thank you for your help.

Google has officially discontinued support for 32 bit Chrome just about a year ago. That's why it's not available for download from the Google download page. You can search around the internet and find some older versions on non-offical sites, but there's no guarantee that they haven't been tampered with - install at your own risk.

Alternately, you may want to try the Chromium browser. My understanding is that it still has support for 32 bit, though I don't have any 32 bit systems to verify.

Thank you for your response. I did try installing Chromium via synaptic but it will not run after installation via Menu --> Internet --> Chromium-Browser

What could the issue with that be?

Thanks.

Yes, I have tried log-off. I think now maybe it's only for 32 bit computer? My computer is 32 bit right now.

Hi, I just installed chromium on a 32-bit system that I recently resurrected and it does work.

I had previously changed synaptic to make it install "recommended" packages, as suggested here: https://sites.google.com/site/easylinux ... g-software

Don't know if that affected the chromium installation.

Hi panorain,

I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.

It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run "inxi -Fxzd" and "lsusb" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.

As member "ralplpcr" stated, Google and Google Chrome have officially dropped support for 32-bit systems. Many other software developers have also stopped supporting 32-bit systems or will in the near future. I highly recommend that you get a 64-bit computer.

There are some Chrome or Chromium based browsers that still offer 32-bit versions which can use Google Chrome's extensions (add-ons) and work just like Chrome.

"Slimjet" is an excellent browser that works like Chrome, comes in 32-bit and 64-bit, and can use its extension add-ons.

Free web browser download. Download the fastest internet browser for free. Use the deb file.

Hope this helps ...

Thank you everyone for your help so far. Yes it would be great if this was a 64 bit laptop. When I first posted I was wrong about my operating system installed on the pc.

I have installed Chromium via synaptic and here are the chromium packages listed in dpkg:
  • ii chromium-browser 65.0.3325.181-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 i386 Chromium web browser, open-source version of Chrome
    ii chromium-browser-l10n 65.0.3325.181-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 all chromium-browser language packages
ii chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra 65.0.3325.181-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 i386 Extra ffmpeg codecs for the Chromium Browser
@mank_in
I executed the following as you suggested multiple times in the "terminal" and yes infact Chromium does execute and run. The following terminal error messages vary.

Code: Select all

chromium-browser

Hello panorain
there is also a 32 bit version of Vivaldi. Very practical on small screens. You can download Vivaldi 1.14 32bit DEB directly from the Vivaldi homepage.
