Mint MATE: Restrictions in the customization. How it's possible?

Post by Old_Lion » Sat Mar 04, 2017 3:12 pm

Hi,

My sons (8 and 10 years old, but very interested :shock: ) are learning more about the Mint and therefore often carried out settings that often can not be restored. It is possible to set restrictions with which they can not, for example theme, wallpaper, or other settings change (so, as for example, when starting the Synaptic)? If so, how do you set it up? I'm an average user, but I am not afraid of the terminal is used. :lol:

Sorry for my english!

An old Lion.

The easiest solution is to create a second user account WITHOUT sudo/root rights for your sons. So they can play around as they are pleased without interfering with your own settings or the system per se. Don't forget to change your own password afterwards :)

I second George's suggestion.

Better yet, create two new users - one for each boy.
Make it more interesting for them by adding a photo of each one (or maybe a cartoon character) to the login page. That is accomplished by creating a small image and giving it the name ".face". It should be about 100x100 pixels.
Put it each user's /home (/home/user/.face). It will automatically be used.

The story did not end happy ending, the trio of 'rwx' unfortunately does not cure everything.

If your boys damaged the ownership of the files in your /home, that can be fixed.
Please post the result of:

Code: Select all

find $HOME -not -user $USER -exec ls -lad {} \;
