Switch Kernel Back

Post by EmpireITtech »

Hello all -

What's the best method to revert back to a previous kernel in Mint 18.1 Cinnamon?

My current LM 18.1 box has 2 kernels installed, 4.10.0-14 and 4.8.0-46, and it is currently using the 4.10 kernel as the active one. I want to go back, but do not see exactly where to do this. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

The standard method is to (from the grub menu "Linux Mint.. more options" line) boot with another kernel, here 4.8.., and then uninstall the unwanted one(s), here 4.10.. Uninstalling kernels can be done for example in update manager.

Thank you - I had done this before, but forgotten how. I've loved having the ability to install/uninstall kernels from the Update Manager, maybe even 1 day Mint can allow you to set your default kernel from within that same area as well
