outlook.com on Linux Mint not working [SOLVED]

Post by franktop »

Hi, I just installed Linux Mint as a dual-boot option on my PC (with Windows 10). My university uses an outlook.com email address but for some reason the web page is not loading. It works if I boot into windows but I get a "Server not found" error in Linux Mint. Does Linux Mint not work with certain web pages? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

By the way my Uni email link is "http://outlook.com/kcl.ac.uk" and from there I enter my user name and password.

did you check that it worked, before you installed the LinuxMint ?.
- as it may be just your 'net connection ..
what are you using to connect with :?: can you surf using Firefox :?:

Odd. It works for me....

Try Google Chrome and/or Chromium: do they show the same behaviour?

I'm using Firefox as my browser and this is the first web page I've noticed not working. To be honest I don't like using Chrome (I don't have it installed on either OS) because I don't want Google tracking everything I do. I'll install it and see if the web page loads and if so I'll just use it for my Uni mail.

Seems to work here on Firefox using ublock origin and ghostery.
Have you tried to disable your add-on extensions?

I don't have any add-ons installed in Firefox and I've deleted all cookies/history and the page still won't load.

I've installed Chromium and "outlook.com/kcl.ac.uk" works there so I'll just use that for my email. Thanks for the help guys. :D

if you aren't too keen on using Chromium / Chrome - - then try using Opera:

It's more than likely the situation is on the school side, not your side. Schools have been using more and more 'filters' so that students can't get to 'objectionable' content. You've found that some browsers get through better than others.

Yes - this must be something with the way your college's Outlook.com site redirects. I use Firefox on many different Linux distros to access Exchange servers via Outlook.com daily, but I'm glad you got Chrome to work for you. Welcome to the Mint community btw!

As with other people, both the URLs you listed work fine the firefox - perhaps you could change firefox's "user agent" to get access (an addon might let you set it for just that site).
