Where are my System Properties? [SOLVED]

Post by steve65e »

Hi. I installed Mint 18.1 Mate a few days ago on an ageing Vista laptop. I'm impressed, Mint has saved it and totally turned it around. I found it straightforward to install and sort out the teething problems despite not being remotely techie.

One question. How do I see my system properties, I can't find a button or app? It seems like previous versions had one. The solutions I've found by googling seem very convoluted.

Am I missing something?

..How do I see my system properties..
I'm not sure which properties you want to see, but I've installed and use hardinfo from Synaptic Package Manager. Once installed it will show up in the main Menu as System Profiler and Benchmark. :-)

One used by many is this Terminal command : inxi -Fxd

Also in Mate, for options like "Desktop", "Driver Manager", "Sound", "Printers", etc etc - look for the Control Center. It should have all those options for you to manage.

I know it's for the 17.3 edition, but I don't believe one for version 18 is available, but this starters guide from Mint helps imo > https://www.linuxmint.com/documentation ... h_17.3.pdf. There shouldn't be too much different from 17 to 18, and would assist you in the beginning. Installing hardinfo like richyrich said (great name btw lol) is exactly what you want to do for seeing cores, memory, GPU, etc type info. You can do it the way he described, or open a terminal and type

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install hardinfo
and type your admin password

Good luck!

Hello steve65e and Welcome to Linux Mint.
From the Terminal you can get a lot of info by typing the following :

Code: Select all

inxi -F
It will give you a general overview of your system.
for more specific parameters type

Code: Select all

inxi --help
That will give you all the parameters you can select. Good luck :)

Thanks for the heads up on hardinfo. Should browse the synaptic more often!
