Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon 64-bit Freezes at least once a day!

Post by SeaWeed »

My installation freezes once a day, usually few seconds after startup, sometimes twice a day. How can I find the cause of the problem because this is really bothering me. :|

What are you doing when its freezing? Pull up the system monitor and keep an eye on it, does your CPU top out?

Post the results of this terminal command

inxi -Fz

To be honest I've read lots of threads here discussing Cinnamon freezes. Maybe search the forums you could find a solution. I think I've also read comments that say Cinnamon in 18.1 is known to be buggy but don't quote me on that.

In my experience, Mint 18.1 xfce has been the most stable for me, to the point where if I even install the Cinnamon desktop (apt-get install cinnamon), and log into the session, it still works flawlessly.

I have had minor issues with Cinnamon 18.0, and haven't really gone back to try again since. Obviously though while I'm running the Cinnamon desktop, I'm using the XFCE native apps (thunar, etc), so the problem may lie with some of the GNOME stuff included with Cinnamon 18.1 which I'm simply not running. Just a theory.
