that makes no sense. Radeon isn't for intel video chips.

As mentioned, you have dual graphics. And the card that's being used is the Intel one, as you can see in the line:

GLX Renderer: Mesa DRI Intel Sandybridge Mobile

ANd you don't say which Mint release you have. If it's 18.x you are not going to see AMD drivers there because AMD doesn't support closed binary drivers for any Linux release that new. They're redoing their whole Linux graphics stack, and AFAIK they're moving to open source drivers.

WHich is what Intel does ... you aren't going to see any Intel video drivers in driver manager.

If it's Mint 17.x you should be able to get the AMD closed driver because it's supported for that release. But it seems you didn't so I suspect you're running 18.x.

There are 3rd party binary drivers for AMD cards in newer releases but they're 3rd party and not supported. Those type of drivers aren't generally well maintained and they're buggy. I wouldn't touch them.

In the meantime you should provide a complete system report:

You could use the Package Manager with search on "radeon" and find the AMD ATI drivers you want to install, perhaps. I see almost 50 packages to be used with AMD, ATI and Radeon of various types. Latest version is 3.6 upgrade from Ubuntu precise to trusty. There's also some for xenial versions if you search on
"amd xenial video" without using the quotes.

No VGA connections.

here's info on xrandr and using two video cards "multi-head".

If you want to see if this will work for you, then install it.

Description: distributed multihead X server
Xdmx is a proxy X server that uses one or more other X servers as its display device(s). It provides multi-head X functionality for displays that
might be located on different machines. Xdmx functions as a front-end X server that acts as a proxy to a set of back-end X servers. All of the
visible rendering is passed to the back-end X servers. Clients connect to the Xdmx front-end, and everything appears as it would in a regular
multi-head configuration. If Xinerama is enabled (e.g., with +xinerama on the command line), the clients see a single large screen.

xrandr is an official configuration utility to the RandR X Window System extension. It can be used to set the size, orientation or reflection of the outputs for a screen. For configuring multiple monitors see the Multihead page.
Multi-head, multi-screen, multi-display or multi-monitor represent a setup when multiple display devices are attached to a computer. This article provides general description of multiple multi-head setup methods, and provides some examples of configuration.

Oh, now you say so. I thought you wanted a two monitor system. Load the Radeon drivers and then plug into that card instead of the Intel.

Have you even tried it with a monitor plugged to the video card? You may also need to enter the BIOS and tell it to use that AMD card instead of the onboard Intel video.
fglrx seems to be the driver you need for hybrid graphics system.

https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php ... 50&page=86
Re: AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics works

So, after days of screwing around with varying instructions, I finally got my Samsung Chronos 7 video working. This laptop uses an intel/AMD hybrid graphics:

Code:

$ lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Seymour [Radeon HD 6400M/7400M Series] (rev ff)

As described here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/HybridGraphics , All I had to do was remove all fglrx related packages, remove the xorg.conf (I never had one before anyway, move yours somewhere safe if you want a backup), purge packages from other xorg PPAs, and install fglrx and fglrx-pxpress:

Code:

sudo apt-get purge fglrx*
sudo ppa-purge xorg-edgers
sudo rm -rf /etc/X11/xorg.conf
sudo aptitude install fglrx fglrx-pxpress

After that, my AMD graphics was working for the first time (e.g. I could run glxgears, and fglrxinfo). But the AMD card was causing really glitchy graphics, so I used AMDCCLE to switch to the internal car (intel), which works well.

The computer now runs about 10-15 degrees hotter than it did before. I'm not sure why that is - the link above mentions that this will happen for nvidia, but not for AMD, but maybe it's something similar. If anyone knows how to cool it back down on the intel GPU, or stop the glitching on the AMD GPU, let me know.
For info, but a bit outdated in application, instead best to use package manager or mint update.
