Cinnamon 18.2 Problem

Post by bob466 » Sat Jul 29, 2017 1:22 am

Hi Guys,

A few days ago I did a clean install of Cinnamon 18.2 on a spare HDD (500GB) and everything works fine...I'm running it on my Desktop Computer which is 64 bit...Motherboard is socket 1150...i5 CPU 3.2 GHz and 16 GB of DDR3 Ram running in dual Chanel.

My Graphic card is installed and working fine...all updates are also installed. This HDD is my test HDD which I had Cinnamon 18 running without any problems. So to my problem...After typing in my Password in the new Login Screen...I hit Enter and get the black screen which hangs for about 9 seconds (which I believe is normal)...then the Desktop Background appears without sound...Desktop Icons or the Panel.

This Background then hangs for about another 9 seconds...then Desktop Background Re-appears again with Sound...Desktop Icons and the Panel and everything works just fine. I've never experienced this in Cinnamon 18...so how do I fix this ? It's not a serious problem...just an annoying one...has anyone else had this Bug ? I must say I do like Cinnamon 18.2 very much as it runs very well except for the problem at the start.

I'm not sure if there is a problem. I too run Cinnamon 18.2 and it does take a while to boot up to a operating state.

You might look for what is slowing things down: You may be running the latest Cinnamon 3.4.4. It might have changed functionality since Cinnamon 18. So it might be slower by comparison. Look at you starting applications (System Settings->Startup Applications). See if you have large delays set. Also see if you can remove any applications you don't want to use on startup.

Yes maybe you're right...on my Main HDD I've got Cinnamon 18 which from Password takes 25 seconds to Desktop. I also have Cinnamon 18.1 in a VM on the same HDD...it takes from Password 19 seconds to Desktop. In Startup Applications both show Mint Update - Delay 10...all the rest are "0".

In Cinnamon 18.2 from Password to Desktop with all Icons...Sound and Panel takes 18 seconds...so it's actually faster :o . In Startup Applications Mint Update - Delay 20...all the rest are "0".

I did update the Kernel from 4.8.0-53 which came with 18.2 to 4.8.0-54 in the hope this might fix this issue but unfortunately it did nothing...maybe it's suppose to be like this...I don't know.
