[Solved] Cannot increase /boot size or remove older versions of kernel

Post by vcosn »

Newbie here.
My /boot is full. Upon checking it seems to be full of old image versions and configuration files.
--> Tried to remove them via the Syanptic Package Manager, it returned an error and
---> Tried to resize /boot using GParted, couldn't increase the size beyond its current value.

How do I safely remove the older versions of these files. I'm not sure which the right files to directly delete.

Wow

Start purging the unused kernels and headers with sudo apt-get purge linux-image-4.4.0-53-generic linux-headers-4.4.0-53 linux-headers-4.4.0-53-generic

Do that for each set.

Check which kernel you're using with uname -r and leave that one intact.

Man, don't feel bad, I'm right there with you! But as it states in the red text at the top of this forum, we ALL start out as n00bs! Thanks for this post, now I've learned another point in Linux..

EDIT: It doesn't say that in the red text at top of page! WHERE did I read that? :/

What types of files do we remove, looks like two types?

This is one more indication of a link that fixed many of the same malady in several of mine and other computers that were updated the last few weeks from LM18.1 to LM18.2.
Boot Partitions filled and other red lined alarms.
Try these:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install byobu
You probably will need to enter your password that will not show.
and this:

Code: Select all

sudo purge-old-kernels

What is byobu, Is that a trusted app, before I use it? Sorry for dumb question.

Hurrdurr, got it, had to close synaptic.

That works good! It left the current and previous. Very good.
