help recovering recently deleted files

Post by magicchance »

Hey Mods, a couple days ago I accidentally deleted some .mov files that were sitting on my Desktop. Any way I can get them back?

You can often get them back with TestDisk/PhotoRec. You say this happened a couple days ago? You may have already written over your files and prevented their recovery. When you accidentally delete files, do not write anything to the hard drive, but recover them right away.

Sounds like you don't have a backup in place...might be a good time to install one. I use Timeshift and have it set to do a complete backup every week because you never know when disaster will strike.
