[SOLVED]How to enable password on login

Postby whois1230 » Tue Sep 12, 2017 4:27 pm

Hello, I want to enable my password for when I turn my computer on or restart it(and it automatically turns off and then on). I've disabled the password for sudo, but I want to enable it for logging on to the laptop. I'm running Linux Mint 18.2. When I go to System Settings/Users and Groups/user/Groups, 'nopasswdlogin' is not checked.

It did not help. I want to be prompted for a password when I turn the computer on, but not when I'm typing in terminal(sudo example). I managed to remove the password for sudo, but I don't know how to activate it for login. I used

Code: Select all

sudo visudo

to remove the sudo password.

Have you tried changing the permissions on the users and groups settings

Menu ------>Control Centre ------> Users and Groups----->Highlight the user account you want on the left ------> on the right of the window change the setting next to password

You do realize, right, that you've also disabled your best protection against viruses and malware?

I do realize this, but I don't want to enter a password for every line I write in the terminal. Is there a way to disable entering a password for every line, while keeping the sudo password?

OK I'm lost
I would delete the user groups and current users and start again.... after creating a new custom and or admin acc... with password login enabled!
this page might have some info on sudo use -v will give you a five minute window there are others...

giantmnm's answer solved the problem:
Open your terminal and type or copy paste the following:

sudo nano /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

Then set the autologin-user=false

After changing the value from your username to false, press Ctrl + X. Then press y for saving the changes.
