MP3 to CDA Conversion
I would like to make a CD that can be played on older CD players

The age of the CD Player shouldn't matter - what matters is whether it supports the CD-R format. (Nearly all of them produced in the last 20 years should)
You didn't mention your DE or version of Mint. The instructions and applications available to do this are many, and will differ depending on your environment & version. Can you provide this info, please?

if you have all installed codecs, you should have a disk burner program, like brasero, and add the mp3 files to the audio project and burn to a Audio CD

Have you checked that when burning the disk you are "Closing the Disk" which means no more information can be written to it. Many CD/DVD players won't play the disk unless it is closed. Equally only the CD/DVD recorder that the music was recorded on will play it.

@larry316: Many on this forum say if you have problems with Brasero, try xfburn from the software manager instead.
