Please start a terminal and post the output of this command:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
Enclose the results in code markers, which you can select from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply. Note that F in -Fxz is an upper case F.

I did notice some bangs and pops on startups. I then gave my microphone jack a squirt of tuner cleaner, before running a plug in and out of it a few times. No further problem.

I get an obnoxious but brief hum-crack-pop when I power-up/shut-down, which started when I added a sound card (internal card was silent). Dunno of any solution (I'm guessing some software disconnects the ground before it should).

If you're getting noises when you start apps I'd make sure the hardware was seated properly.

Just out of curiosity, what sound card do you have? I have an ASUS Xonar D2, and it clicks quite a lot during boot - which is, in the case of that card, perfectly normal. Something about relays; I dunno, I kind of zone out at that point of the explanation.

Code: Select all

alsamixer -c0
card : HDA Intel PCH ; i try turning down the levels from the mixer but that did not do any thing , but i switch to the next kernel i had available ( 4.8.0-56 ) and the popping seems to have stop with the applications , however still doing it at startup but it seems that is not quite as loud

I'm having this problem on a new Lenovo system. From my searches on the web, it appears to be a known issue that has been identified and the fix will be (is) in 4.14 kernel. I currently just turn down the volume at boot up which is the only time I hear the popping.
