Dell Inspiron Mini 1018 boot problems [Solved]

Post by Luis66 »

Hello everyone
I need help. Could you give me a hand please?
I'm trying to install Mint on a Dell Inspiron Mini, Intel Atom N455 1.66 GHz 1Gb Ram 250Gb HDD.
The processor data sheet shows 64 bit support https://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Ato ... 513.0.html
but the windows installed is 32 bit.
Mint Cinnamon 32 or 64 and Mate 64 can't be found by this pc. (operating system not found)
Mint Mate 32 starts installing but right before it's almost done it hangs and only option is to turn it off.
It gets to show a black desktop, lower bar with 4 icons on the left lower corner and mouse works for a few seconds.
Any ideas?
Thank you very much in advance.
Luis

A Google Search reveals that other Dell Inspirin Mini 1018 users have no problems installing LM 18.x 32bit and 64bit. Maybe, you need to fiddle a bit with the BIOS setting.

Try the lightweight Xfce edition of Mint 18.2 (32-bit):
http://mirrors.kernel.org/linuxmint/sta ... -32bit.iso

Before installing, change the window manager:
Menu button - Settings - Desktop Settings
Window Manager: set it to plain Xfwm4 (instead of Xfwm4 + Compositing)

Thank you very much.
Xfce installed and it's running.
But I don't understand what you meant abut Xfwm4.
I couldn't find that setting.

Sorry to bother you guys again.
Mint Xfce booted on my Dell inspiron mini and run fine.
Then I installed it and I caouldn't believe it, It's not recognizing the login password I just created and even wrote it down.
I install it again from scratch and the same. I checked the keyboard before reinstalling and it's fine.
Have anybody ever come across this?
Any idea of what's going on?
Thank you very much in advance.

Try username = mint
password = blank or just press Enter.

Or during installation, select "Automatic login".
