Cinnamon crashed twice today, log inside

Post by gene0915 » Wed Dec 06, 2017 1:15 am

Fresh install of Mint 18.3, maybe a few days old. Fully updated. Cinnamon has crashed on me twice today, do these log entries give a reason why?

Here is a snippet of the crash report: (the bulk of it is just random garbage. I could upload it somewhere if somebody would like to see it....I think the tar file was 27 megs?)

Might be related but looking through some logs and it appears I installed a remote desktop program (nomachine) about 15-30 minutes before Cinnamon crashed. I'm not 100% sure about the first crash but the 2nd time, I was definitely using nomachine. I have sense removed nomachine and switched to TeamViewer. Hopefully nomachine was the culprit.

I did a MemTest (ran for hours, did 2 or 3 passes) and no errors were reported.

I got the same behavior. I installed 18.3 x64 as a virtual machine on a VMware ESXi 6.5 host. Patched the system, installed open-vm-tools-desktop and then NoMachine nomachine_6.0.66_2_i386.deb. The system seems to run fine until I remote in using the NoMachine client. Most likely the problem is with their software but could find no mention of anything related on their website.

I'm 100% certain it was Nomachine causing the crashes. Since posting that, I moved on to Teamview and have not had a single crash since.
