Used space on ssd growing every day about 200MB
I have fresh installed linux mint 18.3 cinnamon, but used space on ssd is now about 18,4 GB (when I was installed fresh copy it was about 8,7GB). I don't know why is that. I am just a user and totally noob. Please, help me to stop this growing. Sorry for my english. Thanks in advance

Open the menu and enter in the search bar
baobab
(the actual name depends from your language. Here you can inspect into the used space. The folders with most usage are at the top of the list.Re: Used space on ssd growing every day about 200MB
It is /var...about 8,7GB and /usr...about 5,5GB
Re: Used space on ssd growing every day about 200MB
Both values don't look abnormal. But where are the other 4 GB?
Re: Used space on ssd growing every day about 200MB
/home about 2,7GB an the rest is under 1GB
Re: Used space on ssd growing every day about 200MB
So far nothing unusual.
I do not know, how fresh your install is, but it is likely, that you did not store the 2.7 GB in your home in one shot. Let us assume you have it for 14 days, so 14 * 200 MB is roughly 2.5 GB. Possibly that explains the grown used space.

No, I have not saved so many files. Tonight when I started computer system monitoring showed 17,9GB and now it shows
18,3GB...I did not saved any files or something like that for that time...I have just a used internet all the time

If you do not know, what those 2.7 GB in your home are, click in baobab the triangle in front home and go deeper, as far as needed.
Re: Used space on ssd growing every day about 200MB
dropbox 966,3MB, .cash 873,2MB, .config 269,6MB, .dropbox-dist 155MB, .viberPC 155MB, hplip3.17.11 125,6MB, the rest is under 100MB...and I have to say nothing is new (dropbox is like few days ago and everything else), but tonight 400MB is more space used
Re: Used space on ssd growing every day about 200MB
Again nothing suspicious and the values do match with the sum of 2.7 GB. Compare the values in the next days to find out, where the additional place gets used.
Re: Used space on ssd growing every day about 200MB
I'll do that, but I followed it for 10 days ago, but tonight I decided to ask for help. Thanks a lot and cheers.

"/var about 8.7GB" This is ridiculously high. My /var with a full set of packages in it is 1.9GB. With the cache emptied it's only 450MB. I suspect a repeating error is filling up some log file in there.

When I did that, one folder gives a "denied" permissions, how do I fix that?Cosmo. wrote:Open the menu and enter in the search barbaobab

I don't know. I am not an expert, but I think it is very much used space. And I don't know how to fix that.Mute Ant wrote:"/var about 8.7GB" This is ridiculously high. here is picture on 27th november
Re: Used space on ssd growing every day about 200MB
That is quite normal. Some folders are only accessible by root, but there shouldn't be the culprit for the used space, except you would play with the sudo command on places, where you shouldn't.AZgl1500 wrote:When I did that, one folder gives a "denied" permissions, how do I fix that?
You can anyway inspect also those places with this command:
gksudo baobab

8.4 GB for /var/lib appears far too much. Click the triangle in front to inspect deeper.

Indeed inspect deeper. Is perhaps
/var/lib/flatpak
the big folder?Tip: 10 things to do after installing Linux Mint 21.3 Virginia
