How to get started with Geany & Ruby?

Hi, all!

I'm not exactly a newbie with Linux (having made the right choice 7 years ago), but I've never really had a go at programming anything in all this time.

I just recently started tinkering around the beginners' course on Rube in Codecdemy.

It vaguely reminds me of some college classes I took in Pascal and C over 20 years ago.

But anyway... Anyone got any basic advice on how to get started?
I've downloaded Geany as probably the safest bet for trying to do a spot or Ruby programming.
First and foremost, like how do I used Geany to make .rb files in particular?
And how do I run said programs?
There is a terminal app to run Ruby files included in Mint, is there not?

Thanks in advance! 8)

Is there any reason to choose Ruby an Genie. Python is a good yet powerful language for beginners.

Somebody suggested to me that Ruby was a good place to start.

I can always pick my brother's brain for Python later, since that's what he deals with for a living.

I just want to do this for a bit of simple fun. Nothing too fancy (yet).

And Geany keeps showing up as an IDE that can be used for several different languages.
